Check Minecraft server status

Enter the address of a Minecraft server and see straight away whether it is reachable, how many players are on it and which version it reports. Up to five servers at once — no sign-up, no installation.

This is the same lookup that runs as a widget on the Minecraft start page inside NX1. If you want to keep several servers in view permanently, that is where they belong; for a quick check this page is enough.

Check a server

Up to five addresses, separated by commas. Java Edition.

Live lookup via api.mcstatus.io (Java Edition). Results are cached for a few minutes.

What the result means

Online means the server answered the status query. The player figure is the number currently connected, followed by the maximum the server reports. The version is the text the server sends itself — many networks put a range there ("1.20–1.21") or their own message instead of a single version number.

When the server looks offline but is not

Four causes cover nearly every case. First, the wrong edition: this lookup is for Java, and Bedrock servers answer over a different protocol. Second, a non-standard port — if the server does not run on 25565, add ":port" after the address. Third, an address that only resolves internally, such as a local IP nobody can reach from outside. And fourth: the server really is down right now, because many hosts put it to sleep when it sits idle.

A whitelist does not change the status

A whitelisted server still answers the status query — it shows as online even when you are not allowed to join. The reverse also holds: "online" here does not mean you can get in. A required modpack, a version mismatch, a ban or a full queue only show up when you connect. The status query says only that the server is reachable and responding.

Permanently on your new tab

If you check the same servers regularly, typing them in gets old. In NX1 the same status sits as a widget on the Minecraft start page: your servers are listed there, refresh themselves and are in front of you on every new tab — alongside tiles, news and the other Minecraft tools.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work for Bedrock servers?

No, this lookup is for the Java Edition. Bedrock servers (console, mobile, the Windows 10 edition) use a different query protocol and will show as unreachable here even when they are running.

How do I specify a non-standard port?

With a colon directly after the address, for example "myserver.net:25566". Without one, the default port 25565 is assumed, which is what most servers use.

Why does the player count differ from the server’s own website?

Two reasons. The result is cached for a few minutes so the upstream is not queried on every view. And large networks often report a rounded figure, or one summed across several sub-servers, which will not match a single lobby exactly.

Do I need an account or an installation?

No. The page works in any browser, including on a phone, without signing in. The address you enter is passed along for that one lookup and is not stored.
