The NX1 alternative to Toby
Toby answers a question bookmarks never answered well: what do I do with twenty open tabs that belong together? They move into a collection with one click and come back the same way. For research and project work that is one of the best ideas in the whole field, and collections can be shared with a team.
NX1 solves a different problem. It is not about the archive but about the tab you open fifty times a day: one start page per topic, with the tiles that belong to it, a news feed drawn from exactly those sources and live widgets. The two therefore do not exclude each other.

Two different jobs, not a replacement
A session archive and a start page do not solve the same problem. Toby is strong when work is interrupted and has to continue exactly where it stopped — twenty tabs in, twenty tabs out. NX1 is strong when you are not looking for anything specific but starting the day and want to see what has happened. If you need both, install both: NX1 takes the new tab, Toby stays available from its icon.
What NX1 does with your bookmarks
On first run NX1 imports your browser bookmarks one to one as tiles. After that you can let Autopilot go through them: it proposes sorting the collection into areas by topic — work, gaming, shopping — and you confirm or discard each change individually. A long list becomes several start pages, each showing only what belongs to it.
Fair is fair: where Toby remains the better choice
If your actual problem is the open tabs, NX1 is the wrong answer — it can neither save nor restore sessions, and that will not change, because it is a different product idea. Toby is also built for teams maintaining the same link collection together, and NX1 is not.
Frequently asked questions
Can NX1 save open tabs as a session?
No. NX1 manages tiles, areas and bookmarks, but not tab sessions — open tabs can neither be saved as a collection nor restored later. If you need that, a session manager like Toby is the right tool, and the two install alongside each other without any conflict.
Can I bring my existing browser bookmarks?
Yes. On first run NX1 offers a 1:1 import of your browser bookmarks — they show up as tiles and can be reordered or moved into start pages afterwards.
Is NX1 free?
Yes. NX1 is free and works without an account; device sync uses a pairing code instead of a login.
Does NX1 work in Firefox or Safari?
As an extension NX1 runs in Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera). In Firefox, Safari and on mobile you use NX1 as a web app at start.nx1-app.com.
